Rep. Maxine Waters Ethics Investigation

The outspoken and longtime Los Angeles politician Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) is being investigated by a House ethics for involvement in a bank's dealing with her husband. Last month she convened a congressional hearing to look into the controversial mega merger with NBC and Comcast in LA with Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) who is facing a House trial on 13 ethics allegations.

Firefighters Make Progress on Crown Fire



As of 8 Pm on Friday there is no smoke visible in Palmdale after an aerial and ground assault today by firefighters. Helicopters used the California Aqueduct to reload water as the continued to douse hotspots

Crown Fire Scorches northeast LA County



The Crown Fire erupted this afternoon near Agua Dulce and moved quickly northeast towards Leona Valley and west Palmdale.

LA Protest against SB 1070



Protesters have shut down the intersection of Wilshire and Highland on the day SB 1070, the controversial immigration law takes effect in Arizona. Ten people were arrested.

Pasadena Bridge


The "Colorado Street Bridge" in my hometown of Pasadena was built in 1913. Apparently Colorado Blvd was formerly called Colorado Street. During the Great Depression in the 1930's the bridge was referred to as "Suicide Bridge". Definitely one of the more picturesque bridges in So Cal.

Pete Rose Sighting in Malibu



Pete Rose, the beleaguered former big leaguer and baseball's all time hit king "managed" a team at Steve Garvey's Celebrity Softball Game for ALS Research held at Pepperdine University last night. Pete's third base coach was Verne Troyer. The press release said the event would be "highlighted by the first time Pete Rose will be swinging a bat in public in decades", but he never touched a bat unfortunately. The highlight was watching Jose Canseco launch some bombs out of the stadium during the pre-game home run derby.

Manslaughter Conviction For 2009 BART Killing

A small gathering of protesters waited for the verdict against Johannes Mehserle, who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for shooting and killing Oscar Grant at a Bay Area Rapid Transit stop in Oakland on January 1, 2009. Nearby behind Parker Center, the LAPD stood by in case of civil disobedience following the verdict.
