Breeders Cup 2009 Day One

I am getting the opportunity to cover the Breeders Cup this year at Santa Anita for AFP. Here are some of the photos from day one. In the late 80's and early 90's I covered horse racing extensively, and it's really cool to get back out there! Special shout out to Mark R. for hooking me up on this cool gig!

Waiting For The Train

Went searching in the Cajon Pass for Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight trains to illustrate a Bloomberg story on the announcement that Warren Buffett's company Berkshire Hathaway Inc. agreed to buy the railroad on Tuesday. If you get the munchies and need to visit a chicken serving KFC after stopping by Kind For Cures for some medicine, I'm sure there must be one within driving distance.

LAPD Headquarters Art Installation Getting Panned

The art installation on the west side of the new LAPD headquarters is getting panned by Chief William Bratton and apparently many others . According to an LA Times column by Steve Lopez , Bratton said "it's as ugly up close as it is when you're driving by." Bratton added "I don't think anybody can figure out" what the shapes are supposed to be, Bratton said. "Bisons and hippos maybe. I haven't the faintest idea what the two tallest things are on either side." All for the price of $500K.

Outside the California Science Center

I had a few minutes to spare while shooting an assignment today at the California Science Center in Exposition Park today and could not pass up shooting a few of the cool design elements outside the main entrance.
