Homeless in Venice Beach - Updated

Update August 28, 2010 - A Jehova's Witness named Inesita speaks with a homeless man on Ocean Front Walk

Windward Circle - August 23, 2010
3rd Street in Venice
Venice Beach has a large population of homeless, many of whom live in their RVs, cars, or vans. The debate on what action to take is getting heated with many residents complaining of hygiene, violence,  and waste disposal problems. The City of Los Angeles and Councilman Bill Rosendahl apparently are working on a program to help remedy the situation and it can't come soon enough. There is also a push for overnight parking restrictions to reduce the swelling number of vehicles used as housing. Of course there is also a large contingent who find a place wherever possible to get some sleep.

2nd Friday of Ramadan at Culver City's King Fahad Mosque

Today is the second Friday of Ramadan and I thought maybe there might be a good picture to be made over at the King Fahad Mosque in Culver City, California. After a few minutes shooting worshippers arriving outside, a very nice man named Aleem invited me inside to photograph the Friday midday service in the packed Mosque. Here are a few of the photos. Scenes From Malibu

I went to check out a 300 million dollar yacht owned by Russian tycoon Andrey Melnichenko that has been hanging around Malibu the past few days. While is was there, I also spotted a fabulous crescent moon sitting low and a kid attempting to fish off the pier, but not having much luck with a tangled line. Capped off the evening with a celebratory meal with my friend and colleague Ted Soqui

June Gloom in August

This is what the prolonged summer of SoCal "June Gloom"mornings looks like from above the clouds, looking towards the Santa Ana mountains from somewhere between Catalina and Long Beach. I was in the air for Angel City Flyers to photograph the jet they are soon to be offering flying lessons aboard. And we also flew over this "mixed use" neighborhood as we flew back to Long Beach Airport.
