LAPD Headquarters Art Installation Getting Panned
The art installation on the west side of the new LAPD headquarters is getting panned by Chief William Bratton and apparently many others . According to an LA Times column by Steve Lopez , Bratton said "it's as ugly up close as it is when you're driving by." Bratton added "I don't think anybody can figure out" what the shapes are supposed to be, Bratton said. "Bisons and hippos maybe. I haven't the faintest idea what the two tallest things are on either side." All for the price of $500K.

Conservative Internet Journalist Andrew Breitbart
Conservative journalist and blogger Andrew Breitbart and I may not see eye to eye politically, but we hit it off well on a recent photo shoot for Financial Times. He is supremely busy and his cell phone and instant messenger were going off constantly while I was at his office. Breitbart formerly worked with Matt Drudge and Arianna Huffington and now is successfully on his own, including recently breaking the infamous ACORN video on his website.
Andrew grew up in Venice, so we chatted about some of the local hangouts here and he also disclosed to me that he is a former "liberal". After we finished the photos, he immediately got back to an engrossing conversation on his cellular, possibly eat lunch at 4 pm , and run to a meeting, life of a popular political blogger really is 24/7.o

Biologists Study Effects of Station Fire
I spent a day with USGS Federal biologists Adam Backlin and Liz Gallegos as they collected Santa Ana speckled dace fish to conduct research on the damaging effects of the giant Station Fire fire on fragile wildlife. NY Times reporter Randal Archibold and I joined the biologists on a journey on dirt roads deep into the backcountry to the upper San Gabriel River. It was a fun adventure with the added treat of being off the grid for the day, no cell service = a silent blackberry! Here is a link to Randy's story
