The assignment today was to illustrate a NYT story on the chaos for travelers ensuing at LAX after new security measures were put in place after the attempted attack aboard a Detroit bound plane on Christmas Eve .

Scenes From the Unemployment Office

I went to an unemployment office in the Los Angeles area yesterday on assignment. Understandably, most of the people there were not interested in being photographed. One lady who allowed me to photograph her told me to "send these to Obama". Many of the people were waiting to use the hotline phones that connect directly to Sacramento and the EDD headquarters to check on unemployment checks etc. I heard some sad stories and saw some frustrated people just trying to get by in these hard times.

Mel Brooks - Kennedy Center Honors

Last Month, I had the opportunity to photograph the comic genius Mel Brooks. Tonight he will be one of the honorees for the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors , here is a link to The Washington Post special section devoted to this years class. Mr Brooks was as hilarious in person as he is on the screen as I photographed him in his office at Culver Studios.
